Words from the Heart for Saturday July 10th, 2021
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 5:1-2 (NIV)
Walk in the Way of Love
Melanie Vogel decided to walk across Canada. In Toronto Life magazine she said, “I’d read about the Great Trail, formerly known as the Trans-Canada Trail—a 27,000-kilometre network of more than 400 trails running across all 10 provinces and three territories, through wilderness, urban and rural landscapes, over greenways, waterways and roadways. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. And so, in July 2016, I decided I would walk that trail.” She is currently sitting out the pandemic in Eagle Plains, Yukon.
It is rare for someone to walk 27,000 kilometres. When Melanie completes her cross-Canada hike, she will be in rare company. The Bible tells us that the Christian life is also a trek. Ephesians 5:1-2 puts it this way: “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” The Christian life is a walk of love. We are called to bring the loving touch of Jesus wherever we go. Jesus is our example. As we read the Gospels, we see Him bringing the love of God to everyone He met. His journey took Him to the Cross where He showed the extent of God’s love for us. As the Bible says, greater love has no one than to lay down their life for others. The Bible tells us often about that walk and tells us how practical it is – we offer a cup of water to the thirsty, visit the prisoner, care for the widows. As we do, like Jesus, we become a fragrant offering. Today walk the walk of Jesus’ love.
These have been words from the heart.
