Not Consumed
If you’re like most Canadians, you don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. Canada’s food guide, updated in 2019, recommends building one half of your meals with these nutritional powerhouses. Yet only three out of 10 Canadians achieve this healthy eating goal on a daily basis. 43 per cent of Canadians hit the target a few times a week That’s according to researchers from the Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University in Halifax who, last summer, surveyed 10,000 Canadians about their intake and perceptions about fruit and vegetables.

There is much in this world that consumes our thoughts, our time, our attention. Some things are good – spending time with the Lord in prayer and in His word should consume us. But there are far too many who are consumed by their passions, their selfish desires, their sin. And these will destroy us physically and spiritually. What is the antidote to this? Lamentations 3:22-24 says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’” No matter what is happening in our lives we can count on two immutable truths – God is loving and God is faithful. As you live through 2022, you can count on experiencing His love and faithfulness each and every day. He is never away, never sleeping, never too busy. When you wake up each morning, He has been watching over you all night and is there to faithfully care for you that new day. We are simply called to wait on Him. Do that today and each day of the year.
