Words from the Heart for Saturday January 4th, 2020
And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart…
Ezekiel 11:19 (NLT)
Tender, Responsive Heart
It is said that some of the best things on earth — and some of the best people — are from small towns. In fact, until a century ago, most Canadians lived in small towns. They were truly the heart of the country. Some of that vibe remains. The tiny town of Meductic, New Brunswick, population 300, is the home of Sabian cymbals, sold in 120 countries, and used by such varied musicians as Rush, Keith Harris of the Black Eyed Peas, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Children are born with a will. They naturally demand to be fed, changed and held. Mom and Dad’s whole world immediately revolves around the newest member of the family. Things really don’t change much as we get older. We still demand our own rights and so easily feel sorry for ourselves, or get angry, when we don’t get our own way. If this is the case in our relationship with other people, it is even more so in our relationship with our Creator God. The Bible teaches that all have sinned. No exceptions. And in spite of our willfulness and sin, God still loves us, and longs for a relationship with us. That’s why He sent Jesus. On the cross, He took the punishment that our sin deserves, and when we reach out to Him in faith, He transforms our lives, and takes away our willful spirit. This is the promise of Ezekiel 11:19: “And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart…” Has Jesus made your heart tender and responsive?
