For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
Isaiah 41:13 (NIV)
Holding Your Hand
Bela Kosoian was arrested in 2009 and fined a total of $420. She was acquitted of the infractions, and sued the transit authority, the city where the Metro station was located, and the arresting officer for $69,000. Two lower courts rejected her lawsuit, but later the Supreme Court awarded her $20,000. Ms Kosoian had been taking the down escalator into the Montmorency Metro station in the city of Laval, Quebec, which is part of Montreal’s public transit system, when a police officer stopped her and told her to hold the handrail.
Holding hands is a sign of deep affection. A young couple hold hands in order to show to each other and others that they love being together. Seeing an older couple still holding hands after a lifetime of marriage is always a blessing to see. Watching someone hold the hand of an elderly person, to help guide and support them is also a blessing. These are all signs of love and care. Did you know that in the Bible God promises to hold our hand? That promise is found in Isaiah 41:13: “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” I’m not sure why this isn’t one of the most beloved verses in the Bible. It is a tender, loving, caring promise that God loves us. When we need Him, He is there for us. When we are living in fear, God promises to come alongside and hold our hand. Allow Him to do so for you. If you are facing challenges right now pray that the Lord will reach out and hold your hand.
