See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

What Great Love

As Canada Day 2018 approached, Bayshore Health Care asked their Facebook followers why they loved Canada. Some of the replies included “The diversity of the regions, religions, cultures, people; and the best part of it all is that I don’t have to look over my shoulder to complain about it or praise it. We live without fear. Let’s enjoy and protect these freedoms, and the beautiful environments that come with it.” One other responder simply said “Freedom and family.”

I love the word “lavish.” It’s one of those words that sounds what it means – it even sounds lavish when you say it. When we love someone, we want to offer our love lavishly. We give them the very best gifts we can – we take time to consider what we are going to give them – it will be something they love, something unique, perhaps something that costs us time as well as money. When we present that gift to the person we love, they think “what great love.” The Bible tells us that God has lavished His love on us so much that when we put our faith and trust in Jesus, we become His children. We are adopted into His family. We become heirs of all that He has for His children. I love how John responds to this – he says, “and that is what we are!” John is overwhelmed by this thought – what great love God has for us that He has provided a way for us to be His children. He offers that gift to you, because He loves you that much. If you have trusted Jesus, you are His child. That is how great His love is for you.

These have been words from the heart.
