Words from the Heart for Saturday February 27th, 2021
Let the teaching of Christ live in you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and strengthen each other. Sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16 (ICB)
Living in You Richly
The Canadian Bible Engagement Study is a ground-breaking study of 4,474 Canadians conducted by Vision Critical on their Angus Reid Forum. The study data was gathered in late 2013 and released to the public May 1, 2014. Just 14% of Canadians read the Bible at least once a month in 2013. 64% of Canadians think the scriptures of all major world religions teach essentially the same things. Only 18% of Canadians strongly agree that the Bible is the Word of God.
We live in a day when Biblical illiteracy is rampant. Even within evangelical circles, there is a horrible lack of Biblical knowledge, and it is having an impact on how followers of Jesus are living their lives. It is often difficult to differentiate followers of Jesus from those who make no confession of faith in Christ. The Bible is very clear that this lack of knowledge of God’s Word is not acceptable. In Colossians 3:16: “Let the teaching of Christ live in you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and strengthen each other. Sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Christians are called to not only study God’s Word, but to ensure that it is has taken up residence in us. Only then will it have an impact on how we think and act. A recent study shows that those who study God’s Word at least four times a week live a life significantly more spiritually victorious life than those who don’t. Paul encourages us here to also be in fellowship with other believers, worshipping together and strengthening each other as we study God’s Word together. The result will be a thankful heart and a godly life.
These have been words from the heart.
