The Way You Live

According to a website that gives information to international students hoping to study in Canada, “Canada is an immensely large country that is extremely varied in its people, landscape, and climate. Because of this, the Canadian way of life will vary from one individual to the next. Canadians do share important values such as pride, a belief in equality and diversity, and respect for all individuals. It is these values that make Canada known as a friendly, peace-loving, and secure place in which to live.”

We don’t have to think about being Canadian. It’s who we are. None of us get up in the morning and think, “how can I live like a Canadian today?” You just do. If you are a follower of Jesus, it ought to be just as natural to know how to live as a citizen of the kingdom of God. John the Baptist came as the one prophesied to prepare the way for the Lord’s arrival. He preached the message of repentance. In Luke 3:8a he taught, “Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.” Jesus transforms everything. When we repent of our sins and put our faith and trust in Jesus, our past changes, but so does our present and our future. We become citizens of the kingdom of God and are called to live differently than we did in the past – we are called to live like we belong to Jesus and His kingdom. Jesus would teach His first followers how to do that, and He teaches us as well, through the Bible that He has provided for us. Live like a citizen of Jesus’ Kingdom.

These have been words from the heart.
