May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13 NIV

Hope

Canadian inventors have given many people in the world hope. For example, in 1921, Toronto scientists Frederick Banting, Charles Best and James Collip discovered Insulin and learned how it could treat diabetes. The electric wheelchair engineer George Klein made the world more accessible with a motorized wheelchair that he developed in 1952. The snowblower was invented by Arthur Sicard in 1927. It is a blessing to many Canadians but it really wasn’t available for home use until the 1980s.

There is so much wrapped up in this time of the year. As Christmas approaches, life often gets super busy as we make preparations for the celebrations. But this is far more than just presents, family gatherings, light displays and seasonal music. It is filled with emotions that run deep – many positive and some not so much. At the heart of it all is Jesus, who provides the blessings of this season that last into eternity. The apostle Paul puts it this way in Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” The world longs for all that this verse promises – hope, joy, peace. These are words that are used often at this time of year, but they are not brought about by well-loved songs, or candles and decorated trees. These are the blessings of receiving the gift of Christmas – Jesus – into our lives through faith. When we repent of our sin and in faith invite Jesus Christ to remove our sin and enter into our lives, we immediately receive these other gifts – hope, joy and peace.

These have been words from the heart.
