Words from the Heart for Saturday August 25th, 2018
…the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
Romans 8:21-22 (NLT)
Many voices in our world today are calling our attention to the damage done to our environment. Others are predicting days when things will have run out. The scriptures declare that even creation itself is groaning because of the promises made to the children of the Lord. The much-desired day will bring glorious freedom from death and decay.
The creation of Canada’s famous Cirque de Soleil took place in beautiful Baie St. Paul on the banks of the St. Lawrence River northeast of Quebec City. This quaint community is often included in lists of the prettiest towns in Canada. Cultural life is at the heart of Baie St-Paul, from museums and art galleries to gourmet restaurants and corner bistros and sunny terraces. On holidays, streets lined with century-old homes are reserved for pedestrians, and welcome musicians, painters and street artists.
It only takes a glance at the daily news to realize that the world is far from perfect. There is far too much pain and suffering. People lack for basic needs of food, clothing and shelter, relationships falter and fail, illness and death bring on the pain of grief. The Bible is completely honest about the reality of the world in which we live. Paul writes in Romans 8:21-22, “…the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” The description that Paul uses is graphic – all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth. The reality of childbirth is that out of the pain comes the blessing and joy of new life. So it is with those of us who know Christ through faith. We join with all of creation, longing for the day when all sin and pain will be eradicated and we are birthed into the eternal presence of Jesus. The pain you are feeling right now will lead to eternal joy.
These have been words from the heart.
