Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)

He Cares for You

In 2018, approximately one in four Canadians aged 15 and older (or 7.8 million people) provided care to a family member or friend with a long-term health condition, a physical or mental disability, or problems related to aging. Unpaid caregiving provided by family and friends has become increasingly recognized as an important role in society. Caregiving reduces the social costs associated with health services and institutionalization. In addition, care recipients benefit when they are able to remain at home and maintain a positive quality of life.

I have a friend who must buy Post-it Notes by the truckload. She loves to write Bible verses on these little sticky pieces of paper and put them on her bathroom mirror to remind her of God’s goodness and blessing as she begins her day. One of her favourites is 1 Peter 5:6-7: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” There is much in life that can up our anxiety level. It might be pressures at work, challenges in the family, financial concerns, or the loss of a loved one. Whatever is causing you to be anxious at the moment, remember these two unchangeable truths – God genuinely and deeply cares about you, and knowing this, you can cast all your anxiety on Him. You are not facing the present challenges alone. God is with you through Jesus Christ and as you humbly call out to Him, He will draw close. More than that, there will come a time when He will remove whatever is causing your anxiety. Trust Him to do this.

These have been words from the heart.
