Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Matthew 6:26 (NIV)

More Valuable Than They

Jesus announced that the heavenly Father places great value on each individual. We are more valuable to Him than even other creatures He has made. The Creator makes sure that their needs are met. How much more has He committed Himself to us to make sure that we do not go without. What a marvelous way Jesus tells us that we are valuable to the Father.

Back in 2013 an ultra-rare Canadian penny was sold at a U.S. coin auction for more than 25 million times its face value — about $253,000. The 1936 “dot cent” penny is famous in coin-collecting circles as one of only three such specimens known to have been produced that year by the Royal Canadian Mint. They are distinguished from the millions of other 1936 pennies minted in the final year of King George V’s reign by the miniscule dot placed below the date on the “tails” side of the coin.

If we are all just a product of chance, as secular humanists teach today, then there is no living thing that has higher value than any other living thing. The Bible teaches something quite different. Jesus said this in Matthew 6:26, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” God loves His creation. All that we see in the world around us was created first in His mind and then spoken into being by His will. Genesis teaches us that there was a plan to His creation and the height of the plan was human beings. God loves the birds of the air. God provides for them all they need for life. But never doubt that He loves you more. You are special to Him – more than anything else in the world. You have more value to Him than any other. What a contrast this is to what the world teaches. You are dearly loved by the One who created you.
