With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.

2 Thessalonians 1:11 NIV

Worthy of His Calling

Canada has a long-standing, honourable tradition of robust engagement in support of global stability, peace and prosperity. We are uniquely positioned now to further this role. Arguably, our engagement has never been more necessary, or valued by our international allies and partners. We live in a time when economic growth has lifted billions from poverty. But fragile and conflict-affected states have been excluded from many of these gains. Economic inequality is rising, worldwide. This has brought with it rising instability.

We all have days when the Christian walk feels like a tough slug up a long hill. It can be exhausting. If that is where you are right now, listen to the prayer and promise of the apostle Paul in 2 Thessalonians 1:11: “With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.” What a powerful example of God’s provision for the Christian life. Paul doesn’t say here that God only calls the strong or the perfect but that He equips the faithful. The calling of God on your life is not carried by your ability, but by His power working through your willingness. There is comfort here for the weary heart. God is not only calling you, He is equipping you and supplying the strength you need. So today, don’t measure your life by what feels unfinished. Measure it by the faithfulness of God who finishes what He begins. And rest in this truth: the One who calls you is also the One who equips you.

These have been words from the heart.
