New Every Morning
If you want to watch the earliest sunrise in Canada, travel to St. John’s Newfoundland and then take an early morning drive to nearby Cape Spear, the easternmost point in North America. Near the cliff’s edge, turn to face the ocean with your back to the rest of the world, and you feel the sky changing. A reddish light begins to peek up over the horizon. And as the curve of a golden disc slowly starts to appear you know you’re about to see it!

We have all seen many mornings. By the time you are ten years old you have experienced 3,650, by the time you are 50, you have experienced 18,250. That’s a lot of mornings, and you might have noticed that every one of them is unique. None start out the same way. The weather outside is different, the time your eyes open is different, what you have planned for the day is different. All of this reminds us that something else is unique about each morning. King Solomon certainly noticed this and he wrote in Lamentations 3:22-23: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” God loves you and each and every day He has new blessings for you. They come out of His compassion, His deep care for you. What doesn’t change is His faithfulness – it never wavers. Each day when you get up, you can count on His faithfulness, no matter what happens during the day. Today, look for ways in which God shows His compassion to you, and His unwavering faithfulness.
