The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
Luke 23:55-56 (NIV)
If you want to see the Northern Lights in North America you will have plenty of opportunities. While far-eastern Canada tends to be cloudy, the shore of the Hudson Bay, the northern Canadian towns of Yellowknife or Whitehorse, or the west coast of Alaska are usually good bets. (The city of Fairbanks itself can be a great choice for seeing northern lights without needing to go too far in the wilderness.)
The world says that seeing is believing. The kingdom of God says that believing is seeing. Both are found in the Bible. God knew that there would be those who deny that Jesus died. The religious leaders in Jesus’ day taught that and so do Muslims today. So, He made sure that there were eyewitnesses to Jesus’ death and that the Gospel writers recorded this. In Luke 23:55-56 we read, “The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.” The day that Jesus died, the women followed Joseph of Arimathea who had asked for Jesus’ body and then took it for burial. The women saw Jesus’ body and because of this, they went home to prepare the spices and perfumes for His burial. The Sabbath was about to come, and they couldn’t prepare those then, so they got them ready that evening before sundown. There was no doubt that Jesus was dead. On this Holy Saturday we remain resurrection people. Prepare your heart for tomorrow’s celebrations!
These have been words from the heart.
