Words from the Heart for Monday September 27th, 2021
So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.
Ephesians 4:25 (NLT)
Stop Telling Lies
According to an article in Macleans Magazine back in 2016, “We are not a northern nation, and we need to stop lying to ourselves that we are. More people live in Moose Jaw than live in the Yukon. Compared to other Arctic regions, Canada has done so little to develop its northern economy that it is now rivalled by the tiny Faroe Islands. There’s still no four-season road to our Arctic shores. The only railroad is falling apart. There’s no longer a port, and it’s easier to fly to Africa than it is to Nunavut.”
In this day of social media and fake news, it is hard to know what to believe. A popular website is Snopes.com. It has been described as a “well-regarded reference for sorting out myths and rumors on the Internet. It has also been seen as a source for both validating and debunking urban legends.” We only need sites like this because there are so many lies floating around these days. Some ask, “what is truth?” Followers of Jesus are called to something altogether different. Ephesians 4:25 puts it simply: “So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.” Jesus proclaimed that He is the Truth. All He taught was truth, and He entrusted that truth to the original apostles, who would write about it and speak about it throughout the known world. They were willing to lay down their lives for the truth. There is no room in the life of Christians for lies and untruths. We are called to speak in such a way that people will believe what we tell them – the truth.
These have been words from the heart.
