Words from the Heart for Monday September 13th, 2021
And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.
Ecclesiastes 3:13 (NLT)
Fruits of Labour
Seasonal labour has a major impact on Canadian fruit and vegetable production. Without an adequate workforce to grow and harvest it, produce rots in the field, on the tree, or on the vine, resulting in waste and financial loss. The fresh fruit and vegetable industry relies upon thousands of workers coming into Canada as part of the Agricultural Stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and the Seasonal Agriculture Worker Program to plant, cultivate, process, harvest and pack their products.
When was the last time you sat down and made a list of all the gifts the Lord has given you? I suspect that if you did, the list would be pages long. Everything you have that brings blessing to your life has been provided by the Lord. That is why Christians are so faithful to say grace before meals. We realize that even the food that is before us comes because God is the provider. King Solomon wisely recognized this as well, and writes in Ecclesiastes 3:13: “And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.” Most of us enjoy food. Many enjoy preparing meals, cooking and baking. My great enjoyment is making bread in our bread maker. I don’t remember the last time we bought a loaf of bread. I love trying new recipes. God wants us to enjoy the fruit of our labours. After all, He is the one who gives us all we have to eat. Jesus teaches us to pray for our daily bread, and as we offer Him thanks for answering that prayer, we realize that He has given us all we have to bless us.
These have been words from the heart.
