Words from the Heart for Monday October 26th, 2020
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
Psalm 139:11-12 (NIV)
Darkness Is As Light
Canada has some of the best places on the planet to view the night sky. If you are in Quebec, and are a lover of the night sky, the best place to go is the Mont-Megantic International Dark-Sky Reserve. Located about 40 km from the town of Lac-Megantic, Mont-Megantic National Park is the site of the International Dark-Sky Association’s first International Dark Sky Reserve, a separate designation from the Canadian Space Agency’s dark-sky preserves. The scientific observatory is located at the summit of Mont Megantic.
Infrared goggles are amazing technology. They allow a person to see at night, when its dark. At their best, however, they are monochrome and often grainy. Human beings are not made to see clearly at night. That’s why so much criminal activity takes place while it is dark. If that is true in our day, when we light up our houses and neighbourhoods, how much more was this true in King David’s day. Except for oil lamps and cooking fires, the nights were dark. So what he says in Psalm 139:11-12 is amazing: “If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.” Those who think that what they do “in the dark”, whether literally, or on the dark web, or in secret, will never be discovered are deceiving themselves. While they may get away with things in this life, God doesn’t miss a thing. And there is a day coming when all will be judged. How much wiser to confess our sin and experience the light of God’s grace and peace in Jesus.
These have been words from the heart.
