Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Many Witnesses

The RCMP operates Canada’s witness protection program. According to their website, “Witness protection is for people whose safety may be at risk because they helped the police or the courts. Protectees can be: victims, compromised informants, police agents or independent witnesses who receive threats. People in the program can be from anywhere in Canada, or even abroad. The protection can also extend to members of their family. The program is available to all law enforcement agencies across Canada, foreign agencies and federal security, defence and safety organizations.”

Over the years when speaking to people about Jesus Christ, I would often get the response “my faith is a private thing.” Every time I hear that I think “that isn’t in the Bible.” In fact, just the opposite is true. Paul says in Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. We are also called to testify to our faith in Jesus – to tell others what He means to us and what He has done in our lives. Testifying to all that Jesus means to us strengthens our faith. That is the point that Paul makes when he gives this command to his young friend Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:12: “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” Timothy had confessed his faith in Jesus to a large crowd. We are called to share our faith with others as well. It will help you fight the good fight of faith as well.
