Words from the Heart for Monday November 5th, 2018
All the nations you have made shall come and bow down before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.
Psalm 86:9 (NRSV)
All the Nations
Our God as Creator and Ruler of the nations He has made is worthy of all praise. Nations in our world may refuse to give glory to the Lord. Yet He is continuing to send them the message of His goodness and desire to save. What three nations have you heard about in the news this week? Pray for them and their leaders to come to the One who is worthy above all. The Lord will use you to pray.
Yesterday I mentioned a place in Saskatchewan named Mosquito-Grizzly Bears Head-Lean Man. I had to learn more about it. Here is the story. It turns out that it is the unification of three tribes, the Mosquito Band #109, The Grizzly Bears Head Band #110, and the Lean Man Band #111. These three Assiniboine tribes had settled in the area and together signed one treaty creating one reservation. Located in Cando, Saskatchewan, this First Nations reserve currently has a population of around 300.
God had chosen the people of Israel as His own. Through them He would reveal Himself and His redemptive plan to the entire world. It was never His intention to keep the good news of His love and grace with them alone. Throughout the Hebrew Scriptures we are told of God’s love for the nations. After all, He did create them all. The Psalmist writes this in Psalm 86:9: “All the nations you have made shall come and bow down before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.” This was an amazing statement coming from King David. He was the ruler of a great nation, a nation blessed by the God who had created the whole world. It would have been understandable if David had blessed God for choosing the Israelites as His own. It would not have been surprising if David had been proud of the special stature his nation had with God. But David understood the perfect plan God had for the redemption of men and women from every nation. What a great love God has for the entire world. What can you do today to help the nations come to faith in Jesus?
These have been words from the heart.
