Words from the Heart for Monday November 29th, 2021
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.
Revelation 1:5 (NIV)
The emotional return of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor to home soil this past September after nearly three years of arbitrary detention was warmly embraced by Canadians. Mr. Kovrig and Mr. Spavor arrived back in Canada after more than 1,000 days in Chinese prison. The two Canadians were accompanied on their trip back to the country by Dominic Barton, Canada’s ambassador to China. Mr. Spavor stayed in Calgary while Mr. Kovrig proceeded to Toronto, where he was met by his wife.
Freedom is not something we should ever take for granted. There are untold numbers of people around the world, for example who right this minute are in prison simply because they love Jesus. We are called to pray for them and speak up for them. They long to be released. But that kind of freedom is not the only kind there is, not the only kind that people long for. Listen to what John the Revelator says in Revelation 1:5: “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.” Until a person is transformed by Jesus Christ through faith, they are imprisoned by sin and guilt. Only Jesus has the key to the prison cell of sin. When we place our trust in Him, He releases us instantly and for the first time in our lives we are set free to be the person we long to be and God desires us to be. If you long to be set free, reach out in faith to Jesus, and He will release you.
These have been words from the heart.
