If you return to the Lord, then your fellow Israelites and your children will be shown compassion by their captors and will return to this land, for the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.”

2 Chronicles 30:9 NIV

Return to Him

Moving back to Canada as a Canadian citizen is technically called repatriation. `If you are a Canadian citizen, you are entitled to return to Canada at any time to re-establish your residency. However, it may not be so simple if you got married or had children while away and want them to return to Canada with you. If you have a non-Canadian child, spouse, or common-law partner, you will need to apply for sponsorship so they can enter the country legally.

Our day is marked by those who have grown up in Christian homes, but who have walked away from the faith. There are thousands of Canadians who grew up in Sunday School, or Christian school, hearing the Bible read daily in their home, praying daily, who have turned their backs on the Lord Jesus. As we read the Hebrew Scriptures, we discover that this has been common among God’s people. God has a promise for those who walk away, and then return to the faith they learned from their parents when they were young. In 2 Chronicles 30:9, we read, “If you return to the Lord, then your fellow Israelites and your children will be shown compassion by their captors and will return to this land, for the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.” The grace of God is always available to those who have walked away from Him. He will show compassion to all whose hearts are turned back to the Lord. God’s nature is compassion – like the Father in Jesus’ parable of the wayward son, you will be welcomed home.
