Words from the Heart for Monday November 22nd, 2021

Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.

Galatians 6:8 (NLT)

Harvest of Everlasting Life

Pumpkin and squash are important sources of income for many growers in Ontario. Halloween now has a huge public following and is second only to Christmas in decorative spending. Consequently, pumpkin production has increased significantly. Summer squashes, such as zucchini and patty-pan, are harvested when immature, and used as a fresh vegetable either stewed, boiled or fried. Pumpkins and winter squashes are not harvested until they are fully ripe and the skins are hard.

Our time on earth, in light of eternity, is incredibly brief. I’ve heard so many people say lately how quickly time seems to be flying by. It seems we blink and another week has come and gone. God, who is outside of time, stepped into time when Jesus was born as a baby in Bethlehem. He lived with us for some 33 years, and returned to eternity. So, when He warns us about the brevity of life, we know He understands. So few people seem to take a view of eternity as they live their lives. We all need to take heed to the warning in Galatians 6:8: “Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.” God gives a warning and a blessing. To those who have no concern about eternity, who care nothing for Jesus and His redeeming love, the warning is clear. Both in this life and the next, there is no hope, no blessing. But for those who have trusted Jesus Christ and who walk by the leading of the Holy Spirit eternal life is ours.

These have been words from the heart.
