Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

James 1:2-4 NIV

Lacking Nothing

Canada is lacking workers in the service sector these days and our high level of post-secondary education is partly to blame. According to the Globe and Mail, Statscan notes this level of educated workers helps Canada meet labour market needs today and will do so in the future, and that it’s “essential to maintaining our standard of living as a country.” But shortfalls in certain job categories – including those that don’t require postsecondary education – are impacting that standard of living in tangible ways.”

In a day when shelves are empty because of global supply chain issues and much of what we consume is produced overseas, we are getting used to lacking some of the basics of life. Who would have seen that coming a few years ago? It may be frustrating for those of us living in Canada, but for those living in refugee camps in war-torn countries, lacking the basics of life is far too common. As I’ve traveled the globe over the past two decades, I have discovered that many who lack the physical basics of life have discovered the source of unending spiritual supply. Here is what James 1:2-4 says “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” God will supply all you need, even in the midst of challenging times. His goal is that through them, we will grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus. As we do, we will never lack – God the provider will supply.
