Words from the Heart for Monday May 27th, 2019
Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until you restore me? Return, O Lord, and rescue me. Save me because of your unfailing love.
Psalm 6:2-4 (NLT)
Your Unfailing Love
Ted Rogers died back on December 2, 2008. At his memorial service he was remembered not only as an inspirational visionary whose tireless work and drive built a telecommunications empire that spanned a nation, but also as an unfailing father and husband who put equal passion into his family. The funeral for one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs drew hundreds of mourners to St. James Cathedral, including current and former prime ministers and many of Canada’s most powerful families. Rogers died from heart disease at his Toronto home at the age of 75.
Have you ever been to the point of despair where all there is to do is cry out to the Lord? Many of us have experienced such times. The Psalmist, David, certainly had times like that – far too regularly. He speaks to this often in the hymns that he wrote. Psalm 6:2-4 records it this way: “Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until you restore me? Return, O Lord, and rescue me. Save me because of your unfailing love.” The people of Israel would sing this Psalm often in their worship. The cry of the human heart for God’s compassion, for God’s healing, for God’s restoration. When you have reached the point where there is nowhere else to turn, read this verse. Pray it. The Lord will hear you as surely as He heard David. And He answers prayer. If you need healing, He will heal. If you need comfort, God will send the Comforter the Holy Spirit. He will do so because of His unfailing love.
These have been words from the heart.
