Words from the Heart for Monday May 10th, 2021
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Matthew 6:33 (NLT)
Seek the Kingdom of God
During the Charlottetown Conference of 1864, John A. Macdonald, who later became the first Prime Minister of Canada, talked of “founding a great British monarchy”, in connection with the British Empire. He advocated, in the fourth Canadian draft of the British North America Act, the name “Kingdom of Canada,” and in the text it said: The word ‘Parliament’ shall mean the Legislature or Parliament of the Kingdom of Canada. The word ‘Kingdom’ shall mean and comprehend the United Provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.’
One of the ironies of the pandemic, when many of us have been forced to stay home like never before, is that people are chronically overworked and exhausted. It is a real thing and it’s called quarantine fatigue. While it mimics a mental health disorder, the good news is that it is not. According to Glenn Armstrong, nurse practitioner with Kettering Physician Network Behavioral Health in the US, “it’s a normal response to an abnormal situation.” Armstong gives some good advice – things like maintaining a routine, practicing self-care and reaching out to others. The Bible gives some good advice as well. Jesus tells us, in Matthew 6:33: “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” During these challenging days, the followers of Jesus are wise to heed these words. One of the principles of the Kingdom of God is that when we are weak, He is strong. As we seek Him through time in His Word, prayer and times of praise and worship, we find that the Lord provides supernatural rest and renewal. He will give you everything you need.
These have been words from the heart.
