Words from the Heart for Monday March 4th, 2019

Zelophehad … had no sons but only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They went to … the leaders and said, “The Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our relatives.” So Joshua gave them an inheritance along with the brothers of their father, according to the Lord’s command.

Joshua 17:3 (NIV)

Inheritance

In Canada, there is no inheritance tax. Instead, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) treats the estate as a sale, unless the estate is inherited by the surviving spouse or common-law partner, where certain exceptions are possible. This means that the estate pays the taxes owed to the government, rather than the beneficiaries paying. When a person dies the executor files a deceased tax return to the CRA. By the time the estate is settled, the beneficiary should not have to worry about taxes. Any taxes owing from this tax return are taken from the estate before it can be dispersed.

God has an inheritance for His people. It is an eternal heritage, a home not built with human hands, and it is guaranteed to all who have trusted Jesus Christ. The Lord made a promise to the daughters of a faithful man named Zelophehad, that if they remained faithful and married within their own tribe, they would inherit the land that was to be given to the descendants of their father. They had remained faithful to God’s command and so received their reward. Joshua 17:3 says “Zelophehad … had no sons but only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They went to … the leaders and said, ‘The Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our relatives.’ So Joshua gave them an inheritance along with the brothers of their father, according to the Lord’s command.” God shows no favour between genders in His kingdom. There is no difference between male and female within the body of Christ. Your inheritance in Christ is guaranteed no matter what your gender.
