For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:13-14 (NIV)

Thousands of Canadians have post office boxes in the US. Southern Alberta rancher George Henline who was recently interviewed by a US journalist, listed three advantages to being able to receive mail in the U.S.: 1) American manufacturers offer more consumer goods than are available in Canada; 2) for a variety of reasons most goods cost less when bought directly from a seller in the U.S.; and 3) it takes less time to get items directly mailed to a U.S. post office box than to an address in Canada.

I have a friend who serves in a ministry that works to free people who have been trafficked. They often intersect with the traffickers and deliver those being enslaved from the darkness of slavery into the light of freedom. In a spiritual sense, this is what Jesus does for all who put their faith and trust in Him. Paul writes in Colossians 1:13-14: “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” One of the main themes of the Bible is “once you were… now you are.” Jesus changes everything. Until we come into the light of His redemption and forgiveness, we are bound in the darkness of sin, guilt and shame. We need rescuing. Jesus came to do just that. The kingdom of darkness seems so powerful, and it was, until Calvary. There was no escape from its clutches. But the moment Jesus died, deliverance from that horrible kingdom was guaranteed. You don’t have to live in your sin and guilt. Trust Jesus Christ, and enter into His Kingdom of love and light.

These have been words from the heart.
