Words from the Heart for Monday March 22nd, 2021
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.
Psalm 143:8 (NIV)
The sun set in Grise Fiord, Nunavut at the end of October last year. It didn’t rise again until this past February 10. I have visited Canada’s north in the winter, and the long hours of darkness take some getting used to. For a time, it is always night and never morning. For those of us who live where the sun rises each morning, even if its late in the morning, we need to be thankful for the sun that brightens our day.
How does your morning start? Mine starts by heading to my email inbox, but not to deal with any matters of ministry that might have come up overnight. No, I head to my inbox because that’s where I find three morning devotionals, two in video format, written daily by three friends of mine – one here in Canada, one in Australia and the third in Florida. And this is how I start my day, every day. The Psalmist started his day in God’s word as well, and writes in Psalm 143:8: “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” There is no better way to start each day that by God, through His word, assuring us of His unfailing love. No matter how we slept, no matter how our day looks – challenging or relaxing – if we begin each day with the reminder that God loves us and has our day well in hand, our day begins well. It is astounding how often the portion of scripture we read and study each day is exactly what we need to face whatever lies ahead that day. It is no coincidence.
These have been words from the heart.
