Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

Enduring Love

This past September, Global News reported that “A Nova Scotia couple, both in their 100s, recently celebrated their 81st wedding anniversary. Anne Muise, 101, who married her husband Charles on July 13, 1942, said ‘It is hard to believe.’ The couple, who live in the Yarmouth area, and are believed to be among the oldest longest-married living couples in Canada, said their daughter, Nancy Hutchinson. The lovebirds first met at a church dance more than eight decades ago.”

There is nothing as lovely as a marriage that lasts decades. What a blessing for the couple and for their family. It is always worth celebrating because we all know how fleeting life can be, and how easily relationships seem to be thrown away these days. The Bible speaks of enduring love this way, in Psalm 107:1: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” As amazing and wonderful as long human love is, God’s eternal, never-ceasing, never-lessening love is even more a mystery. God’s love for us, ultimately proven by Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, not only carries us through this life, but into eternity with guarantee. He loves you the same way as He did when you were first created and lovingly knit together in your mother’s womb. Nothing you can do will cause Him to love you more and nothing you can do will cause Him to love you less. King David understood this and dwelt constantly under the loving care of the God he knew. Our love can be so fickle. God’s love never is.

These have been words from the heart.
