Words from the Heart for Monday June 22nd, 2020
If [your gift] it is giving, give generously.
Romans 12:8b (NLT)
You will likely be surprised to know that here in Canada, immigrants donate more to charity, on average, than Canadian-born citizens of the same economic class, according to Statistics Canada. That holds true down to the lowest income brackets. New Canadian households making less than $40,000 still donate an average of $404 to non-profits annually, compared with $214 from non-immigrants earning the same. And it’s not just money. While immigrants volunteer at a slightly lower rate than established Canadians, those who do volunteer contribute more hours on average.
God has provided all the Church needs to represent Him well on earth and to increase the impact of the Kingdom of God. In this world, that will take finances. The Bible does not say that money is the root of all evil. It says that the love of money is the root of all evil. God fully understands that His work depends upon the generosity of His people. And so it shouldn’t surprise us that one of the gifts that the Holy Spirit gives to the Church is the gift of the giver. Romans 12:8b says: “If [your gift] it is giving, give generously.” Givers love to give. God has gifted them to know how to get the best deals, how to make money, how to give wisely. God blesses them with financial acumen so they can support the work of Christ at home and around the world. If you are a giver, and you know if you are, then give generously. Keep in close relationship with the Lord and His Word so you don’t miss how He is guiding you to support His work. The Body of Christ needs you to support His work. Give generously!
These have been words from the heart.
