Words from the Heart for Monday June 1st, 2020
Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
Matthew 7:9-11 (NIV)
How Much More
According to the website More Canada, which focuses on increasing Canadian’s awareness of and reading of Canadian books, a recent report states that Canadian books now represent just 15% of books purchased in Canada. Independent Canadian publishers sales are down by 44% in the last ten years. Canadians want to purchase Canadian authored books, but can’t easily find them. And public libraries across Canada support Canadian writers but have no way to measure how well they are doing.
Parents love to provide for their children. It is natural for them to ensure that their children have food to eat and a roof over their heads. Love is expressed by ensuring that our children are raised in safety and good health. Jesus understood this and uses that parental care to describe the Heavenly Father. In Matthew 7:9-11 we read, “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Human parents love their children. Even more, God the Father loves us. I love the picture here: if a human father loves his children, then how much more does God love us. I’m a father and grandfather. It is hard for me to believe that anyone could love my family more than I do. But Jesus reminds me that God does. So I can trust them to Him, knowing that God wants the very best for them. And He wants the very best for you and your family, too.
