Words from the Heart for Monday July 15th, 2019
People who refuse to work want things and get nothing. But the desires of people who work hard are completely satisfied.
Proverbs 13:4 (NIRV)
A Harris poll of 2,766 adults who live in Canada, which was conducted back in October 2015, discovered that the “Canadian Dream” is alive and well. The survey results revealed that 86% of Canada’s residents believe in the Canadian Dream, which was defined as possessing a good-paying job in Canada that one likes, having enough free time available to enjoy life, and being a homeowner. 87% of people born in Canada believe in the Canadian Dream, while 91% of people who immigrate to Canada think the Canadian Dream is a reality. Additionally, 58% of all respondents indicated that they think they are already living the Canadian Dream.
I am amazed at Solomon’s insights into human nature. God anointed him with wisdom and Solomon used his wisdom to help us in our interpersonal relationships. For example, the Bible teaches that if a man does not work he does not eat. Now we have a terrific social safety net in Canada, but even governments recognize that it isn’t healthy to just hand someone everything. People lose their sense of worth if they don’t work. Solomon wrote this in Proverbs 13:4: “People who refuse to work want things and get nothing. But the desires of people who work hard are completely satisfied.” With the exception of the gift of eternal life, which God offers freely, God expects men and women to work for what they want. Solomon says if they won’t work they will never get what they want. On the other hand, if they do work, they will be completely satisfied. What are your dreams for this life? God will help you determine how to get to work to ensure that your dreams will come true.
