He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Psalm 91:4 NIV

Refuge Under His Wings

Canada has welcomed 1,088,015 refugees (about the population of Nova Scotia) since 1980. This number includes those who were recognized as refugees in Canada or who were resettled from overseas. Refugees have almost the same unemployment rate as Canadians. They contribute to this country’s economy and are not a burden on Canadian taxpayers as few are unemployed. The unemployment rate for refugees aged 25 to 54 is 9%, close to that of Canadian-born citizens (6%). The situation for refugees improves as they spend more time in Canada.

The Bible teaches that God is Spirit, but it often anthropomorphizes Him. It speaks of His face, His arm, His right hand, His feet, etc. And in Psalm 91:4: “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” What a beautiful picture of God’s love for His people. Like a mother hen during a thunderstorm, God gathers His children when the storms of life come, and fear rises within us. The picture is particularly beautiful because the mother hen takes the lead in gathering her chicks under her care. She knows each of them and ignores none of them. God is so faithful – we never need to worry about whether He cares about us. We never need to worry that He has forgotten about us. The world may throw things at us that would ordinarily overwhelm us, but He will never allow that to happen. He cannot be unfaithful to you. His nature is to be completely faithful. No matter what you are facing now, you can count on God’s faithfulness, care, love and protection. He is your shield just as He was David’s.
