May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.
Psalm 67:1-2 NIV
God’s Face
Canada is covered by water. More than many people in the world can possible imagine. Ask people around the world and those in the know will say that water is the face of Canada. Canada’s Great Lakes alone contain 18% of the world’s fresh lake water. And there are over 30,000 Canadian lakes including two of the biggest in the world, Great Slave Lake and Great Bear Lake. All this means that more than half of all the lakes in the world are located in Canada.

The Bible is clear that God is Spirit so isn’t a physical being. But the Bible often anthropomorphizes God, speaking of His right hand, His feet, His arm, and in Psalm 67, His face. Listen to how the Psalmist describes it in Psalm 67:1-2: “May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us – so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.” The Psalmist speaks of God making his face shine on us – and that is a very good thing. When God looks our way, we have the assurance of His pleasure, His blessing on us. Through Jesus, the glory of God shines on those who have been redeemed. His glory flows from Him to us and through us to touch the world He created and loves so much. This is how God is known on earth, this is how His salvation is revealed – through those who are genuinely allowing God’s glory to shine on them and through them. Every one of us who has been redeemed by Jesus must bring glory to His name by allowing His glory to shine on us and reflect from us.
These have been words from the heart.
