Words from the Heart for Monday January 28th, 2019

If any member of the community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, when they realize their guilt and the sin they have committed becomes known, they must bring as their offering for the sin they committed a female goat without defect…In this way the priest will make atonement for them for the sin they have committed, and they will be forgiven.

Leviticus 4:27,28,35b (NIV)

Atonement

According to a new survey conducted by Leger Research on behalf of Belairdirect, when it comes to mishaps and unforeseen accidents, Canadians are overwhelmingly forgiving. The study gauged the perception of forgiveness among Canadians and found that 96 per cent of people agree with the notion that everyone makes mistakes. Canadians also desire forgiveness in return; 87 per cent of respondents indicated they would appreciate forgiveness for past mistakes. When asked about forgiving family and friends, Canadians are most willing to give their loved ones a break.

God is realistic. He knows that sin has invaded our lives. In spite of that, He didn’t reject us, but instead has always put into place a plan for redemption. That plan was fulfilled in the death and resurrection of Jesus, but even before that once and forever act had taken place, God gave a way out for those who fell short of God’s command to be perfect as He is perfect. Leviticus 4:27, 28 and 35 say: “If any member of the community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, when they realize their guilt and the sin they have committed becomes known, they must bring as their offering for the sin they committed a female goat without defect…In this way the priest will make atonement for them for the sin they have committed, and they will be forgiven.” God has a desire to forgive us. He recognizes that our sin separates us from Him because of His holy nature. So He has always given a way out, so we are not paralyzed by our sin. Jesus is our sin offering. Bring your sin to Him in faith and He will wash it away.
