Words from the Heart for Monday January 20th, 2020
Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.
Psalm 119:1-2 (NLT)
In early 2019, decade-long renovations of the Centre Block of Parliament Hill got under way. But thanks in part to the lobbying efforts of the official national bell ringer you probably didn’t know we had, the famous carillon that rings out from the Peace Tower was not silenced when Centre Block renovations began. Andrea McCrady, Canada’s Dominion Carillonneur, says she’s been promised that she will continue to play the carillon at least until 2021. It will go silent for a while after that, because the carillon needs a bit of a face lift itself.
It takes a lifetime to build a reputation for integrity, and it can be lost in an instant. We too easily allow temptation to become sin, and when it does, it can destroy. That is why Jesus came. Through His death and resurrection, we can experience the forgiveness that sets us free from our sin and receive the power to help us live a life of integrity. When we do, we live in the promise of Psalm 119:1-2: “Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.” This is both a truth and a promise. It is true that when we walk in integrity, we experience the joy that comes from a life without shame and guilt. But it is also a promise. When we search for the Lord with all our hearts and live according to His precepts, He promises a joy that does not come from any other source. If you want true joy, seek the Lord Jesus, and trust Him.
These have been words from the heart.
