Words from the Heart for Monday January 18th, 2021
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.”
Exodus 14:13 (NIV)
If the Ontario Hockey League returns to play early next month, as is the current plan, bodychecking may still be outlawed. Lisa MacLeod, the provincial minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries said in November that bodychecking would not be allowed in the OHL due to possible close contact between players amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. After speaking at an event in Kingston announcing funding for homeless veterans, MacLeod said the bodychecking ban for return to play was still in effect.
There have been very few moments of greater tension that when the 2.5 million Israelites were standing on the shore of the Red Sea, wondering how they would get across that body of water to freedom from Egypt. The Egyptian army was on their way, fast on the heels of the Israelites. The Red Sea was an impassable barrier. Was this the end of the Israelites? Had God brought them here to see them be annihilated? They asked Moses that very question. And here is how Moses responded in Exodus 14:13: “Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.'” This was a moment of faith. It didn’t make any sense to just stand firm. It felt like that would only lead to their demise. Except that God was on their side, and the entire Egyptian army was nothing compared to the power of God. God is on your side as well. If you are facing an impossible situation in your life and there looks like there is no way out – stand firm. God loves you and He is on your side. Watch Him part the water for you.
These have been words from the heart.
