Words from the Heart for Monday January 14th, 2019
I will go with you down to Egypt, and I will bring you back again. You will die in Egypt, but Joseph will be with you to close your eyes.
Genesis 46:4 (NLT)
I Will Go With You
The first dominion high commissioner was appointed by Canada as its envoy in London in 1880. Previously Canada had appointed a personal representative of the Prime Minister, who was given the title Financial Commissioner. Sir John A Macdonald requested the title be changed to Resident Minister. This request was denied by the British government, who instead offered to allow the designation of high commissioner. The Canadian government appointed Alexander Tilloch Galt.
In the Bible, Egypt is a picture of the world. The people of Israel were led out of Egypt, a picture of our salvation. But in order for the people of Israel to be led out of Egypt, they had to be brought into Egypt. God had prepared for this by working in Joseph’s life and having him become the Prime Minister of that North African nation. And after his brothers discover that the one they had sold into slavery was now the one who would save them from starvation, Joseph asks to see his father Jacob. Jacob wonders about this, until God appears to him in a vision. It is recorded in Genesis 46:4: “I will go with you down to Egypt, and I will bring you back again. You will die in Egypt, but Joseph will be with you to close your eyes.” What a beautiful promise to an old man. The trip would be grueling, but God gave Jacob the promise of His presence. The Lord explains to the old man that he could count on His presence as He made his way to Egypt. So can we. No matter where the Lord has called us to go, we can be sure that He will go with us, and will perfectly fulfill His plan for us.
These have been words from the heart.
