Words from the Heart for Monday December 23rd, 2019
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
1 John 2:16-17 (NIV)
Investing In Eternity
According to the Invest in Canada website, Canada is the best country in the world in which to invest capital. With a population of just under 38 million, we have the 10th largest economy in the world. The largest Forbes 500 companies are expanding operations in Canada or establishing new research and development hubs in this country. We are the most attractive county in the world for entrepreneurs and the fifth most attractive country for highly skilled talent. I’m Bob Beasley and these have been words from the heart.
I remember speaking with a friend a decade or so back. He had just had his 50th birthday and God was dealing with his priorities as he began the sixth decade of life. He decided that he had lived for himself long enough, chasing after things that had no eternal significance, and for the next twenty years he wanted to pour his life into something that did. I was reminded of what John says in 1 John 2:16-17: “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” The world and its desires pass away. What is sad is that the vast majority of people are chasing after things that will pass away one day. And all they have invested in will be of no consequence. The follower of Jesus ought instead to be investing in things that will last into eternity. The place to start is be ensuring you are in the very centre of God’s will for your life – and when you do, you and all you do will last into eternity.
These have been words from the heart.
