Words from the Heart for Monday December 16th, 2019
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23 (NIV)
Back in 2000, on the eve of her 100th birthday, the Queen Mother received Canada’s highest civilian honour, being named as an Honorary Companion of the Order of Canada. At the time, Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson said, “In honouring her, we pay tribute to a lifetime of unswerving devotion to Canadians and all citizens of the Commonwealth.”
Many years ago a farmer friend invited me to till his field with his tractor. I had never driven a tractor before, and it was in the days before they were computer controlled. Steve told me to keep my eye on a marker at the far end of the field and I did my best. But when I got to the far end of the field and looked back, it was anything but straight. I later learned that Steve had to go back and redo the field. The Christian life is like this. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” The only way I know how to do anything unswervingly is by keeping an eye on an unmovable object ahead. In the spiritual sense, that is Jesus. If you are to be unswerving in your Christian walk, you need to keep your eyes on Jesus, who is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is the faithful God who will keep us focused on him. There are many things that will try to get our eyes off of the Lord. We need to commit daily to spend time in His word and time with Him in prayer. We need to be with godly people who will help us as well. How can you be unswerving in your faith today?
These have been words from the heart.
