Words from the Heart for Monday August 27th, 2018

I, the Lord, have called you to demonstrate my righteousness. I will take you by the hand and guard you, and I will give you to my people, Israel, as a symbol of my covenant with them. And you will be a light to guide the nations.

Isaiah 42:6 (NLT)

A Symbol of Covenant

This is the CREATOR talking, the One who created the world by the power of His word. This is the hand of the Creator being held out to us! Let Him take the lead and place us in the position of influence He desires. We are blessed to be chosen by Him.

The Covenant Awards are awarded annually by the Gospel Music Association of Canada. The mission of the association is to promote the growth and ministry of Christian music arts in Canada, and so each year GMA Canada presents the Covenant Awards. GMA Canada created the Covenant Awards back in 1974. At the beginning, the awards were focused on traditional gospel music, but over the ensuing years, all styles of Contemporary Christian music have been included.

The prophet Isaiah had a unique insight into the future. God gave him the ability to look forward to the time when the promised Messiah would come. God had begun to reveal His redemptive plan from the moment that sin had entered into the hearts of Adam and Eve. Through covenants, He built relationships and gave symbols each time. These included clothing to cover the shame that sin brought, providing a rainbow as a promise to Noah, using male circumcision in the Abrahamic covenant, and the Sabbath in His covenant with Moses. All of these were pointing to the final covenant that God would make with His people – a new covenant. Isaiah 42:6 looked forward to this: “I, the Lord, have called you to demonstrate my righteousness. I will take you by the hand and guard you, and I will give you to my people, Israel, as a symbol of my covenant with them. And you will be a light to guide the nations.” Isaiah is looking forward to the day that the Messiah would come and fulfill all the promises of redemption He had given to His people Israel. Jesus is the fulfilment of these covenant promises.

These have been words from the heart.
