Words from the Heart for Monday August 16th, 2021
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.
1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)
Every year Buckingham Palace releases lists of gifts given to the royal family while on visits. It can be an eclectic mix, from bags of salt to jewelry. So it was with the royal visit to British Columbia and Yukon in 2017 by William and Kate and their children. Among the 150 items recorded by Buckingham Palace are four woolen wraps from the Heiltsuk First Nation for the duchess of Cambridge and a pair of gloves for William from the grand chief of Tl’azt’en Nation.
Everyone loves getting gifts. Just watch a child on their birthday or Christmas morning. Their eyes come alive as they open their presents. It is rare to have someone reject a gift – most people gladly accept whatever is offered them. The idea of gifts comes from the heart and mind of our Creator God. 1 Peter 4:10 says, “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” Most of the gifts that we receive from friends and family are for our own benefit and we use them that way. But the gifts that God gives are for others – for His glory and for the benefit of others. In the parable of the talents, Jesus teaches us that the more we invest the gifts that He has given us for the good of others, the more gifts we will receive. Each one of Jesus’ followers is called to serve others. By doing so we experience the pleasure of God in our own lives and we bless others in the family of God. Find ways today to purposefully use the spiritually gifts God has given you.
