[Jehoram] followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.

2 Kings 8:18-19 (NIV)

A Lamp for David

Henry Woodward was a Canadian inventor and a major pioneer in the development of the incandescent lamp. On July 24, 1874, Woodward filed a Canadian patent application on an electric light bulb. It was granted on August 3. Woodward was a medical student at the time. His light bulb comprised a glass tube with a large piece of carbon connected to two wires. He filled the tube with inert nitrogen to get a longer burn life in the filament. He sold his US patent to Thomas Edison and due to this, Edison is now known for the invention of the light bulb.

God had a plan for the redemption of the world. He had planned it from before the creation of the world and nothing was going to thwart it. From the moment sin entered into the human heart, God came seeking the lost. And nothing that Satan or disobedient people would do could get the Lord to alter His plans in the tiniest details. Look at what 2 Kings 8:18-19 says: “[Jehoram] followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.” Even an evil king who led God’s people away from the Lord could not deter God from continuing with His redemptive plan. No matter how far you have strayed from the Lord, He loves you dearly, and He continues to seek after you. How wise to turn your heart to Him and experience that love.

These have been words from the heart.
