Words from the Heart for Monday April 22nd, 2019

Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.

1 Chronicles 29:11-12 (NIV)

Yours is the Kingdom

While officially our nation is the Dominion of Canada, we live in a Kingdom. Canada has a parliamentary system within the context of a constitutional monarchy, the monarch of Canada being the foundation of the executive, legislative and judicial branches. The Canadian monarchy is a separate legal institution from the monarchy of the United Kingdom, though the two offices are held by the same individual. The sovereign is Queen Elizabeth II, who is also monarch of 15 other Commonwealth countries and each of Canada’s 10 provinces.

We usually think of the Kingdom of God in terms of the New Testament. We understand that Jesus is the King of kings and He came preaching the Good News of the Kingdom of God. But the Kingdom of God is not a New Testament concept at all. David understood the things of the Kingdom of God, and in 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 we read, “Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.” The Holy Spirit revealed much to David about the coming of the Messiah, and here he lifts up his voice in praise of the God who is Ruler over all. What a great psalm of praise to our God who is Lord and King. What a blessing we have in knowing that the name of this great King is Jesus and He is the One who rules over this Kingdom. Praise Him!
