Not Consumed

French fries are the most popular food item consumed by Canadians by far, and the only one to top out at over one billion servings per year. They pair well with just about anything and they are more popular than ever among all age cohorts. Innovations like sweet potato fries and poutine provide a good foundation for flavour innovations, but the traditional fry still accounts for about 80 per cent of all servings.

Good Friday and Resurrection Day are past. The calendar continues to move on and with the busy-ness of the past weekend over, we look towards the future – here in the Northern Hemisphere, Spring has arrived with the promise of new life shooting forth from a warming earth. A much greater blessing is that the reality of the empty tomb stays with us. Just as the women were amazed to find the tomb empty early on the first Resurrection Day, so we can count on experiencing resurrection life each and every morning as we wake to a new day. The prophet Jeremiah gives us this wonderful promise in Lamentations 3:22-23: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” The love of God was proven with the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. His compassions were proven in the empty tomb. And that love, those compassions, are poured out every day upon those who love the Lord Jesus and walk in obedience to His word. This is a wonderful promise – no matter how challenging life gets, we are not consumed. Today, you can count on God’s compassion – He loves you dearly.
