Words from the Heart for Friday September 27th, 2019
Tell your children about it in the years to come, and let your children tell their children. Pass the story down from generation to generation.
Joel 1:3 (NLT)
Tell Your Children
2017 was the first full calendar year of implementation for the new Canada Child Benefit, which came into effect in mid-2016. The Benefit, which bundled together and enhanced previous federal child benefit programs, resulted in higher incomes for families with children. Two-parent families with children saw their median child benefits increase by $1,200, while lone-parent families received an extra $1,300 in 2017 compared with 2016. The poverty rate for persons in lone-parent families has been declining steadily over the previous five years, associated with increases in child benefits.
How grateful I am for my parents, who had devotions every evening with my brother and I, and who taught our Sunday School classes so that I would learn of the love of God and understand the need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Bible clearly teaches that parents have the great responsibility to pass on to their children the good news of the Gospel and to introduce them to Jesus. Joel 1:3 says: “Tell your children about it in the years to come, and let your children tell their children. Pass the story down from generation to generation.” The local church has a role to play in the Christian development of children, and I’m grateful for those leaders who pour their lives into the children of the church. But it isn’t enough for parents to drop their kids off at church and head out for coffee. The primary responsibility Christian parents have is the spiritual development of their children. Be consistent in how your live your Christian life before your children. Share with them what the Lord is doing in your life. And teach them God’s word.
These have been words from the heart.
