Words from the Heart for Friday September 13th, 2019
Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’
Ezekiel 33:11 (NIV)
West Vancouver police say Canada Day celebrations turned ugly after officers tried to stop several large crowds of teenagers from drinking in Ambleside Park. Around 8:30 p.m., officers were patrolling in the area when several groups of underage youths were found drinking in the park. Police say officers started seizing the alcohol and issuing violation tickets. About 20 minutes later, the crowds of teenagers had moved over to an area near the skate park and turned on foot-patrolling officers.
The prophet Ezekiel was called to deliver a challenging message to the people of Israel and the surrounding nations. The nations surrounding Israel were determined to wipe God’s people from the face of the earth. And many in Israel had turned their backs on the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. So the message that Ezekiel had to deliver was often one of God’s vengeance and justice. But God was also a God of love and grace. His desire would be for all people everywhere to reach out to Him in faith and trust. So God tells Ezekiel to deliver that message as well. Ezekiel 33:11 puts it this way: “Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’” God’s desire is that even the wicked would repent and turn from their wickedness to trust Him. He pleads with them to turn from their evil. Their death could be avoided if they would seek the Lord. The same is true for everyone today. The Lord Jesus is calling you to trust Him today.
