Words from the Heart for Friday September 10th, 2021

A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?

Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 (NIV)

Satisfaction in Work

Canadian workers are among the happiest in the world, with nearly two-thirds saying they love or like their job a lot, according a study for job website Monster.ca. The survey found that 24 per cent of Canadians love their job so much they’d do it for free and 40 per cent say they enjoy what they do, but “could like it more.”  About 29 per cent said they like it “well enough for now.” Workers in the Netherlands were the next happiest nation.

I love hearing stories of people who get deep satisfaction from what they do. They often will say something like “I feel like I’ve been called to this.” There is no better place for you to be than right smack in the middle of God’s will for your life, doing what the Lord has gifted you to be and to do. It the sweet spot for the follower of Jesus. Wise King Solomon wrote this in Ecclesiastes 2:24-25: “A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?” As Solomon looked at life, through the wisdom God had given him, he noticed that there was much of life that brings joy. It includes the blessing of a delicious meal, and the satisfaction that comes with a job well done. He teaches that all of this is a gift from the Lord. If you find great joy in the work you do, thank the Lord for that gift. God loves to bless you with every good and perfect gift, including your work.
