And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV

Abound

Apparently love abounds in the oil sands of Alberta. Fort McMurray – technically the largest unincorporated “city” in the province – had plenty to brag about heading into Valentine’s Day 2020, because it snagged the top spot on Amazon Canada’s list of Most Romantic Cities. For the previous seven years, Victoria, British Columbia had held the top spot, but in 2020 that all changed. Fort McMurray climbed to No. 1 from its previous No.3 finally overtaking its neighbour to the west.

Romantic love may be abounding in Fort McMurray Alberta, but within the kingdom of God, abundance is common is so many things. Paul the apostle writes this in 2 Corinthians 9:8: “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” I love how God provides for us. He is able to bless us, not just a little bit, but abundantly. He doesn’t just provide what we need to serve others, he provides all that we need so that as we serve Him by serving others we will abound in every good work. There is never any reason for a follower of Jesus to lack for anything as we live for Jesus and reach out to others with His love. As we draw close to Him, walking in the sweet spot of the centre of His will for our lives, as we reach out to others with compassion, we are promised His abundance. By the Holy Spirit we are blessed abundantly, so that at ALL times, having ALL that we need, our good works will abound – for the blessings of others and the glory of God.
