Words from the Heart for Friday October 18th, 2019
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.
Matthew 13:43 (NIV)
If you happen to find yourself in Windsor, Ontario during the Christmas season, don’t miss Bright Lights Windsor in Jackson Park. Your experience will include a giant illuminated tree in the Queen Elizabeth II Sunken Gardens, thousands of lights and a host of iconic holiday characters throughout the park, the WE Made It: Holiday Market, food vendors and festive performances on Fridays and Saturdays. As the days get shorter at this time of the year, what a blessing bright lights are to our Canadian lives.
We use an interesting idiom to describe someone who seems to stand above the crowd – we call that person a bright light. They stand above the crowd, or bring joy into a place where there isn’t much. As with many of the idioms we use in everyday life, it is a Biblical concept. In Matthew 13:43 Jesus says, “Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.” Here, Jesus is explaining the parable of the weeds. At the end of time, everything that causes sin, and all who do evil, will be plucked out of the Kingdom and cast into a blazing fire. In contrast, those who have been redeemed and clothed in the righteousness of Christ will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. These are the bright lights, in whom Jesus will reveal His Glory for eternity. Jesus’ words are both a warning and a promise – a warning to those who ignore the salvation that Jesus offers freely, and a great promise to those of us who love Him and have been clothed in His righteousness. Don’t wait until that Day to be a bright light for God’s Kingdom.
These have been words from the heart.
